In real estate, a common mantra is “Location, Location, Location.” If there were a similar three-word mantra in web3, one could argue it might be “Communication, Communication, Communication.”

Solving the communication issues in web3 is the equivalent of finding the holy grail. The project or projects which can help decentralized communities communicate efficiently and effectively have the potential to capture the new decentralized marketplace.

Today, many Decentralized Autonomous Organizations, or DAOs, use communication tools like Discord, Telegram, and Twitter. These centralized services, while helpful, are in the crosshairs for disruption. Enter Bunches.

Bunches is “…building web3’s messenger with an integrated wallet designed for creators and their communities in order to make the new internet accessible and useful to everyone.” A bunch is similar to a group or community organized around common subjects. Currently, there are bunches on sports teams, stocks, lifestyles, game clubs, and more.

What intrigues me most about Bunches is in the details. While new, Bunches has a clear focus and direction. What gives me this perspective? Let’s start with their why.

In our article The List of DAO Tools we spoke about Simon Sinek’s (2010) Ted Talk on How great leaders inspire action. In that video, Sinek highlights the power of why and how leaders and organizations who start with their why can inspire others to greatness. My research on Bunches led me directly to their prominently displayed why.

We believe that the core value…the why…of web3 is not financial speculation. Our why is freedom. Our why is ownership.

As a student of Organizational Leadership, this was a clear home run. Bunches is about freedom and ownership, and how they do that is by facilitating conversations via a messenger tool. The fact that the team has put thought into what guides their day-to-day actions leads me to believe that they have a clear direction and goals for the future. They don’t stop there, though. Bunches’ notion page explains their goals, values, products, and culture.

One piece of that culture is FUN! Specifically, they believe that “Work should be joyful.” While it’s great to say you value joyful work, it’s another thing to put into action. Once again, the small details here impressed me. Even for something minor like team introductions, the Bunches team took a unique approach and used HAQs or hypothetically asked questions that injected some fun. For example, team members were asked in their introductions:

  1. If you were a fruit, what fruit would you be?
  2. If you were a global place, what place would it be?
  3. If you were a beverage (alcoholic or otherwise), what drink would it be?
  4. If you were a genre of music, what genre would it be?
  5. If you were an animal, what animal would it be

This unique way of describing the team personalizes members and humanizes those working on this web3 tool. Moreso, this also means that the Bunches team is now doxxed. This transparency is an act of trust-building.

This attention to detail is why we loved the Bunches team and partnered with them as they continue to build their product. We truly appreciate the team’s kindness and have decided to use the Bunches application for the Web3 Book Club’s asynchronous communication. In addition, Bunches will be featured on the List of DAO Tools and be listed as one of our partners. If you are interested in joining the Web3 Book Club’s chat on Bunches, please join here. We want to thank the Bunches team for their partnership and are excited to see where this tool goes! We look forward to building a few bunches of new frens along the way!
